lap top computer fans,sit on type,advice needed

Thinking of buying one of those fans that lap tops sit on,the electronic

shps sell them for around fifty dollars,do they help the computer have a longer life??are they a good thing to get??i notice it heats up a bit sometimes

I am sure there are plenty of computer gurus on this site,to give me advice on them,for all i know they could be a gimmick

let me know what your thoughts are on them,if they are a usfull accessory,and help computer,i will get one,i think logitic make them.

I have one for the macbook, it gets a tad warm. Got it for the princely sum of $10 from fleabay, powered by usb.

I use one and have for several years. Makes sense to me. But I won't say anything silly like - "My computer hasn't broken down yet"! Not going to test the arm of the IT gods! Eeek!

Shop around for better prices.

I have two Thinkpads (one for work, one for astronomy) that run flat out whenever they are on - which could be for days at a atime. Seti@Home and BOINC tend to do that.
One is 2 years old, the other 4.
Neither has any external cooling and I've never seen any signs of heat stress. They serve as good lap warmers for winter.
