Ngc 4549

I never knew that this galaxy existed till the other night

While I was at Mapleton Observatory I was shown an image of it and urged to have a go at it myself. So here it is.

Shot through moonshine.

30 minutes of 20 second subs @ ISO 800
8" newt
Canon 20d, ICNR on.
iOptron Mini Tower of Terror
Processed in CS3, crop, curves, levels and shadows/highlights.

I'll have another go in a couple of weeks. Dark skies will make a BIG difference.

Nice shot Jeanette, considering the conditions. Noisy as, but that's understandable.

Hey, maybe if we fire nuclear missiles at the Moon, like in that Meteor movie on Ch7 tonight, it'll move the Moon away and it won't be so bright!!!!

(If you follow that movie's logic, that is!!!

Is that a Bok Globule just above and to the right of the galaxy.

this one is a toughy at the best of times, will wait and see what dark skies can do for you.

NGC 4945. I plead extreme fatigue at the time of posting.
Paul, the sensor is rather grubby. I'll give it a clean sometime soon.

Good one Jeanette! I think there was mention of this galaxy and that part of the sky in S&T a few months ago (Les D?). Pretty nice for a quicky, and I'm sure you'll be back to attack it in earnest!

Very nice!
I don't know why it isn't a more popular target for southern sky observers as it is visible for so many months of the year.
The small galaxy near the magnitude 7.8 star HD 114102 at upper left is NGC 4976.
