Pocket PC Astro Software

Hi All,

I just got hold of a old HP iPAQ (56MB Memory). Ive loaded Windows Media 5 onto it and the thought crossed my mind that it would be good to take out with the telescope if i can find a neat pocket pc night sky software.

So the questions comes, do any memebers here use any pocket pc astro apps? Or know any good ones.

Ive looked at a few on the internet but would prefer to hear opinions of those that have actually been tried and tested.

Cheers,
Ash

Hello Ash,

I am using Astromist on both HP IPAQ and Palm PDA. It is certainly a very nice piece of software with a yahoo group. Here is the link:

http://www.astromist.com/

You can also download a free version to try.

Best Regards,
Serge.

Have used Planetarium by Andreas Hoeffer for 6 yr and its excellent (Palm). Can control your mount with bluetooth etc - very nice and has a great compass function that will align you N/S day or night.

This one was made free some time ago. I saw a recent review of PDA apps in one of the local mags and this was in there.

Agree, this one is good; I just realised I have this one on my PDA too. You can use it on Windows Mobile devices in conjunction with the Styletap program..

thanks for the input guys,

Ive chosen Astro Mist with a HUGE on my face.
I am extremely happy with this product and will be purchasing it after final review of the trail version is complete.

I tried a couple others including Tachyon and found that they were very resource hungry and crashed alot. Long wait/load times to move across the sky to load charts etc.

Upon trying Astro Mist - I have found exactly what I wanted!
Im very very happy with this product and will recommend it to anyone looking for PDA astro software.

cheers,
Ash
