Talking Sept 6 Luna, Jupiter, and Venus Conjunction

Here's the money shot!

http://tinyurl.com/bt99c

Its 1600x1065, so I've linked it. I know I could shrink it, but the resolution gets ugly when I do that and I wanted to hold off on cropping it because I think the trees really help frame the shot.

As you can see from the photo, we had quite a few clouds and I had given up hope of seeing the conjunction. I was walking the dogs when I saw the break in the clouds so I sprinted into the house, grabed the camera and tripod and setup as fast as I could.

EXIF data is below the photo.

I ripped of a couple more, but this is the best of the bunch. I had one more that showed better earthshine, but by then venus was behind the clouds

I did no retouching of that photo: only converted it from RAW to JPEG and resized it down to a smaller size using GIMP.
I appologize for how ugly the page looks: I was just trying to get something up before I had to spend all day in meetings at work.

Enjoy!

That's a BIG pic!

I like the way you left all the trees in. And the clouds add effect! Well done.
I am amazed at the amount of threads covering this one conjunction!!!! It would have to be the most photographed event this year.

Heyya...
I was looking at it again, and there is Spica sitting just barely above the tree below Venus.
I didn't notice it at first because I was going so fast, but I just doublechecked it with CdC, and that is where Spica is supposed to be =-)

Bonus!!!

Thanks for the feedback, Ken!

Heh - thanks!
I've got a bud whos a wiz with DSO stuff and his Digital Rebel. I'm trying to nudge him into helping me clean it up some so I can shrink it down and retain the detail. Should be more modem friendly and better looking

Is that the one in your conjunction shots? Those are pretty nice too! Your long exposure shot is outstanding! I don't use a remote release either (keep meaning to get one). Just use the delay timer: works really well!

Thanks!
A couple of things I recall from my trip to Oz was how nice the folks were. Glad to see things haven't changed in 13 years
Now if we could only get Aussie beer (besides Fosters), all would be right on this side of the equator! Mmmmmm VB and XXXX! I'd even take a Toohey's

Yes mate - its just about to flower - and thanks even tho the remotes are very cheap for the canons - and they have about 4 or so to chose from - unlike my old nikons - just one very expensive remote! outrageous!

Have you tried any Coopers stuff? - their pale ale is delicous.
although i am a boring? virtual non-drinker/tea totaller myself these days - used up most of my life long quota of booze long ago unfortunately ;( I got a bit carried away in my 20's

My meagre shot

I was at work the other night when I saw the conjunction, so I grabbed the work's 4 megapixel digicam and took a shot.
Not bad really for a hand held shot.
