Angry Wanted: Guaranteed to work USB to Parallel Device to control LE modded TOUCAM II

HI All,

Let me cut to the chase:

I have wasted over $60 on two "supposed to work" guaranteed, 100%, no questions asked USB to parallel adaptors which funnily enough, DONT WORK.

Now, I have read and re-read the posts re the USB to Parallel adaptors and their problems etc and let me first state that I am not going to buy a PCMCIA card or docking station.

What I have is: Philips Toucam Pro II webcam with the LE mod (using the switch and the pins 2 & 21 ONLY wired using speaker wire to the DB25 Printer plug).

What I need is: Someone with the SAME webcam and mod to tell me the USB to Parallel Adapter they have that WORKS so I can trundle down to the shops and buy one before I take the said webcam and smash it into little bits.

Can anyone help out please?

Chris

is data being sent over the parallel port?
if not you could just replace it with a missile switch?

other than that, no idea sorry

Hi TJ,

Ahh I think there is data being sent over it, PIN 2 is RX data and gets LE shutter info from the PC, while pin 21 is just a Ground connection.

Best of luck, Chris. I hope you find something. I use the PCMCIA card... I haven't found a USB to Parallel convertor that appears to the system as an LPT: port (which is what you need). That's not to say they aren't out there...

Chris,
Sell the webcam before you do some serious damage!! Buy an LPI or a DSI instead.
I went down the same route and found the ONLY solution 100% was the PCMCIA card.... expensive and imported from the States.
Eventually sold it!!
BTW the issue is that the LPT needs to be a "Bi-directional" and 99.99% of the USB etc are not.
