IIS server speed

Hi all,

When I first posted on IIS a few months back the page refresh
and update speed etc of IIS seemed pretty good.

However lately I find that I have to click several times on a thread
or link etc within forums in order to move forward.

Sometimes when I am writing a post or pm , for example, if the
refresh doesn't happen straight away, the post doesn't even post
if you know what I mean.
The server stalls and I have to hit Back in IE7 to recover what I wrote
and then try to post again.

Does this indicate a bottlenecked IIS server or is it more likely a problem
my end with my Telstra BBand?
It doesn't happen on general BBand browsing eleswhere.

Hi Steve.

The server IIS lives on hasn't changed for a year or two, and I haven't noticed any drop in performance. Noone else has reported any problems either.

Maybe try firefox as a change? I find it considerably faster than IE as it starts showing the contents of the page straight away.

i think its rather a ie 7 browser problem ?

i used to use ie version 6 was a reasonable browser at that time but as it grew Older i noticed it was doing the same thing as you are describing

so i upgraded to firefox 3 never had anymore hassles

in ie 7 it may have something todo with the delay in waiting ie no ping with the server ?

therefore having to reload the page in ie 7

it allso used to wait until it downloaded the whole page before displaying ?

no more probs for me now though

have you tried a different browser : opera, firefox, ect ?

There are problems inside the optus network which might be causing you problems. Even though you are on BigPong, the link may traverse across optus to get to IIS. Optus have a router or two in there that are preforming poorly. I was having similar problems to ANZ and lowered the MTU setting on my modem from 1400 to 1395 which fixed it.

Statistically, the server response time has been basically flat over the last 400 days. Apart from the odd hiccup that might last for short period and is usually not the server but routing problems on the internet, the server speed hasn't changed.

As a matter of interest and has been suggested, try Firefox for a week and see if it improves your browsing experience (sounds like a Firefox Ad).

I think you may be right about IE7.

The timing sort of rings true for when I hit the UPGRADE button
and went from IE6 to 7.

It's just a little puzzling why other non-IIS browsing seems to be fine.
I do use Mozilla a fair bit for a lot of Java browsing like the Aladin sky
server and other stuff because it seems to run smoother and doesn't
seem to leave behind pictures as much (pics loaded as blank X).

How can MS seriously call IE7 and improvement when it causes so many
hiccups? I had to turn off a lot of the default settings just to get it to
browse properly (popups, Phishing scanner etc)

Edit: Mozilla still seems to have the same stalling/ page refresh slowness.
I get this message in Mozilla on IIS pages:

"The connection has timed out
The server at www.iceinspace.com.au is taking too long to respond.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

FWIW I have found the opposite to the previous post(s). I find accessing IIS with IE6 very slow for some reason (but no problem with other websites using IE6). IE7 is MUCH faster for accessing IIS for me...

Having said that, I WOULD try firefox if you are having trouble - it will probably be faster.

I do think something funny might be going on with the IIS web server however. It seems a number of us are getting slow access for IIS depending on configuration (but not other websites)?? Anyway, I just use IE7 and performance is good..

IIS would probably go close to being the fastest Forum I visit.

Please ignore if you regularly do this, but check your system for worms/trojans/adware etc too.
I have had similar wierd things happen where IE can access sites and FF can't, where one site is slow while others aren't, where one site can't be accessed at all but others are fine etc etc.
Using a second computer on the same connection can help determine if it's PC or connection related problems.
A few times that this has happened to me I've scanned the system with SpybotS&D and found DNS-changer trojans and redirecters.
Worth a shot.

I'm using IE 7 and I'm not sure if this started when that was updated. But
for several months now when I hit the edit button on a message (and edit
the message in page, not advance) I just posted (usually to fix a typo) the
little whirly aninmation just sits there going round and round and the page
hangs like that. I have to hit the "Refresh" button to reload the page and
try again which usually always works. This sometimes happens when trying
to save the re-edit from in the in page editor.... does that make sense?

And if it does, anyone else having this problem... well more of an anoyance
really.
