ASCOM and Starizona MicroTouch Focuser

I could sure use some help getting a new MicroTouch installed correctly. It's at the point where the USB2 driver is working and the Starizona software communicates perfectly with the hand controller.

But, problems galore with FocsuMax and getting the ASCOM driver to load. I have updated ASCOM to 5.5.1 and the MicroTouch focuser shows up as a possible selection, but when selecting the focuser an error is given: Failed to load driver, cannot write activeX.

I tried out the ASCOM driver from the FeatherTouch site as it seems to be the same exact Starizona product. The Feathertouch DLL is in the ASCOM folder but there is no Feathertouch option. I even tried renaming the driver to MicroTouch.dll which is what one does in desperation. Naturally that faied too.

Totally stuck. Can anyone help? I've written to Dean at Starizona. He answers in a crytptic but helpful fashion hopefully with something to help. I can't be the only one getting stuch with this. (Win7 64 bit)

THANKS!

Hi Peter, Are you running Focusmax 3.4.40?

There's also a 64bit Microtouch Focuser installer
Link at the bottom om this page
http://starizona.com/acb/MicroTouch-...P1041C745.aspx

p.s The 64bit files and readme for install fixed the missing FT Microfocuser selection in W64/Focumax.

I have the same problem as you and Dean suggested me to do something. Then, it works. Below is the link you can download and try it.

http://thaiastro.nectec.or.th/pop/Do...Microtouch.rar <-- 5,646 KB.

After you download, then extract them. There are 2 folders.

Before install, make sure you have a privileged as administrator.

First step.
run setup.exe in folder "01_win7_MicroTouch_driver"

Then, go to your FocusMax and find your Featouch focuser. If there is exist. There is no need to do step two. If there is not FT in the list. go to step 2.

step 2.
Please read instruction in file "MicroTouch ASCOM Fix.txt" which contained in the folder "02_MicrotouchASCOM-Fix"

I copied the instruction to show below.

================
Extract the MicroTouch.Focuser folder from the ZIP file.

Go to the following directory:

c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ASCOM\Profile\Focuser Drivers

Copy the MicroTouch.Focuser folder to this directory

Note that "Application Data" is a hidden folder. To turn on hidden folders, go to Tools > Folder Options at the top of the window. Go to the View tab. Check "Show Hidden Files and Folders".
================

Hope this help.

Thanks guys for the suggestions! Dean's reply made all the difference for my situation! I'd completely forgotten to set the value in User Accounts (control panel) to "Never Notify." After a restart all my issues vanished and everything works as expected!
