Tour Eiffel (HDR)

Hi all,

Here's a couple of shots of the iconic Tour Eiffel taken from Tracadéro.

The first image is not symmetrical due to damn tourists (!). The sparkly lights were going off (such a beautiful sight) and they (the tourists) just wouldn't budge from the spot where the image would have been symmetrical. Oh, well. Once they left (after the sparkling lights stopped their wondrous show!), the second image was taken, from where the tourists had been standing, and, I was able to grab the tower symmetrically. I prefer the second image to the first.

No doubt, JPG compression artifacts and gradients in the sky background will be noticeable at this resolution; higher resolution images available upon request.

No critique other than to say a couple of stunning photos that have been very well executed – well done, top shots!

I did hear a rumour that the lights on the Eiffel Tower are somehow patented - photos can be taken for personal use but commercial usage requires some form of release/agreement/payment between the light owners and the photographer. Was someone pulling my leg?

No, they weren't pulling your leg. this is the case... You can not take photos of the eiffel tower for commercial use without a paid permit.

The same can be said for some of the beaches on the Gold Coast. Its damn near unlawful to have a DSLR on broad beach.

Thanks Alex, and wow - welcome to the brave, new, free world eh! I guess wherever there is scope for people abusing something or other, laws are imposed that then make it difficult for the bone fide punters.

This is true for a lot of famous landmarks.

I was stopped by a security guard last week when I was photographing the S.Opera House.
He saw that I had a tripod and a "good camera" (LOL it was only a 20D) so asked me if I was a commercial photographer because you're not allowed to shoot without prior arrangements.

They're so used to seeing people with phone cameras and point 'n' shoots that they automatically assume you're a pro when they see a DSLR.
