Download "SpywareBlaster
and a virus check "Avast"
no more problems
Done ... and it seems to have had an effect ... although I was running SpyBot as I posted this thread and it found a couple of nasties that have been eradicated ... so they may have been the problem. Every bit helps though !
I just wanted to confirm if it was me or the IIS site that had the problem.
Popup ads for spyware are probably related to smitfraud or similar. Most spyware programs will not remove them or they will keep coming back. There is a dedicated smitfraud removal tool - google for it.
If it keeps coming back, you may want to run hijackthis as well and see what services are running on your system.
There is absolutely no spyware or popups anywhere on the IceInSpace site.
I'm glad that's the case Mike ... I wasn't trying to say that IIS was the source I was trying to alert members because it only seemed to happen when I logged in to IIS.
I think the particular little nasty likes to jump into advertising spaces on websites and advertise itself. I have reported it to Microsoft and downloaded anti virus/anti spyware programs to deal with it.
p.s. I think that the source may have been an installation cd for a webcam I bought for my daughter from Hong Kong .... I installed it to make sure the camera worked and since then the problems started.
Cheers everybody for your comments .... I used to use my Win98 desktop for dialup internet and never had a problem with viruses etc because nobody cared about the old operating system I guess. Vista is a more attractive OS I suppose for those hackers and creeps that like to cause mayhem.
