Full Moon

Hi All

As some know I brought a Digital camera. Not really for attaching to my scope.
But I tried to take a picture of the Moon over some new houses close by.

Nothing new to you guy's but I thought I would share it

Good shot Dave, i'm the same, got a new camera but still trying to work it all out. Tried a few shots like yours but they turn out blurry or the auto focus wont focus to the clarity needed.

where i live, the moon rises over the mountains, whick is always breathtaking when you drive home from work.

The camera is a Fuji Fine pix s5500.

I mounted it on my tripod and took about 30 shots at different f stops etc. About 10 are ok and 5 pretty good with the one i posted about the best.

That house is about 400 meters away.

Still learning to use this camera.

I too prefer themed shots Stuart.

You picked a good time of the day as well, much later and it's difficult to balance the background exposure and get good detail on the moon.

Very nice photo Dave, the last couple of days around 6:20am the Moon has been stunning in the western morning sky, with dark markings standing out and silver highlights. By the time I get to work 6:50am the Moon has lost its lustre, maybe it's what acropolite has said about the timing, it's amazing how fast the scene changes. The other thing is the sky has had a good wash in the last few weeks up here with rain maybe that has also made a difference.

Not a bad capture Dave, have you checked out http://www.s5000.net/ yet? Great source for information. I have the Fuji Finepix S-7000, nice little cam, but The noise is annoying me now, might have to start thinking about an upgrade to a DSLR.

The camera focuses by looking for sharpness in high contrast areas. If you try to focus on smooth things like the sky it won't work. If your camera has a box outline in the middle of the screen, try sticking the edge of the moon in that box. It should focus easily. If not, set the focus manually to infinity (if your camera allows manual focusing).
Also, there is the possiblity that the lens on the camera doesn't deliver sharp images, although that is more subtle than killer bluriness.

If when focusing the camera goes "bzzzzzzzzzz, bzzzzzzzzzzz" and then does it again when you refocus, it's a pretty sure sign that it hasn't acheived good focus because it's just hunting throughout its focusing range.

If your camera has a landscape mode (little picture of mountains) it might help as that will decrease the aperture size and possibly hint to the autofocus that distant objects are in the photo.
