DONE! Modified Canon 20D with Baader ACF Filter ** SOLD **
Hi Guys,
First Canon 20D modified with the Baader ACF Filter is up and running. The procedure out of a scale of 10 , i'll say 5/10. I'm quite pleased that everything went smoothly. It took me slightly over 3 hours to do the mod.
With the ACF filter (same coatings as the UV/IR), this modified 20D can be used for both daytime as well as astrophotography. I didn't end up taking any images on the procedure of modding the cam as i was concentrating on modding it rather than compiling a tutorial on how to. To take daytime pics, you will need to use custom white balancing under manual mode. The auto-focus works perfectly as the replacement glass has the same diamension as the original glass. Camera body is not in brand new conditon but good/very good condition. There are scuff marks on both lcd screen as seen in the first and 2nd image. not deep but scuff marks. This obviously is only cosmetic and for such an oldish DSLR, its hard to find a new condition one these days. 3rd image is a flat after the filter replacement. There are slightly 2 faint dust (highlighted by red circles) which can be taken out when subtracting flat frames. The 6th image is a picture taken in auto white balance in AV mode. the 7th image is after custom white balance. Other than that, the camera is fully functional. As a result of these issues, im prepared to lower the price.
I have been asked about performance between the 20D compared with a 350D. The 20D out performs the 350D. Why? the 20D has muchh lower noise than a 350D. Noise is definitely an important factor for astrophotography. Athernatively, there are also alot of other functions which the 350D don't have. The quality and build of the 20D compared to the 350D plastic is really so much different. Comparing the 20D and the 30D, there is definitely no difference here. They both uses the same CMOS sensor. The only benefit i see between the 20D and the 30D is the larger LCD screen (more heat) and a few other new functions.
Camera also comes with front cap, USB cable, box, manuals, CD's, video cable, bits and pieces, charger (original) and battery (non original). First firm "I'll take it whats yours bank details?" will get it.

Eric,
You're modding pre-loved cameras, so it'd be interesting to do test-flats before and after. Could be your modding process would actually remove some pre-existing dust and dirt from the filter stack.
