This is a question that has come up quite often ...so I will kick it off again with a shot of our Club LX90 case.
Made for under $100 & utiliziing the packaging that comes with the scope we came up with the following
Not pretty, but effective & cost effective.
Still have a few mods to make (rope handles, suitcase latches +)

Like you said Ian, effective and cost effective. Quite a simple unit! Good stuff!! You could even stick it on a trolley and cart it about.
