July/August Oz Sky & Telescope

Arrived in my mailbox today. The first of my subscription. I've had a few glimpses, so much good stuff, but I have had sooooo much else to do tonight. I wanna read it! Looks like a late night reading in bed with my wife saying - "Turn the light off!"

What has caught your eye?

Got mine today too. As I commented in another thread, I had a read of Matt's article about Damian Peach - a very well written piece. Congrats Matt, a great article and easy to read.

I've brought it to work tonight to read the rest

Arr, my subscription ran out! All I got in the mail today as a letter asking me if I want to renew my subscription! I'll have to grab this one from the newsagent when it comes out and mail off my renewal...

I really enjoyed putting the piece together.

Congrats to you too on having more of your great pics appear, and your first community events wrap.

My small contribution aside, it really is a very good issue. A very broad and interesting range of reading material.

Greg Bryant (editor) and the team are again to be commended for the great job they do.

I think it's also significant to note that this issue marks the addition of extra Aussie writers to the regular team, thus bolstering its 'local' content.

I also believe Greg and the team managed to get this to newsstands earlier than scheduled

Must dash out to the shops and get my copy.

May have to ask you famous authors to autograph my C9.25 OTA; hopefully it will become a collector’s item once you authors make your fortune and become members of the international glitterati, pursued by the paparazzi.

I got an email from SKY & SPACE saying their next mag (May/June) will be July/August!
Guess they took my advice! LOL
Can't wait to get that one either!

Thanks everyone for their comments. There was a window to come out a week earlier, and we grabbed it. Our Sep/Oct issue is nearly complete and will be in the hands of subscribers in about 5 weeks.

I would like to add to Matt's remark. Australian Sky & Telescope publishes a wide variety of local contributions every 2 months, 6 times a year.

In fact, looking at the last 12 months, a survey of the major magazines reveals that more Australian writers have had features, columns, and reports published in Australian Sky & Telescope than in any other astronomy magazine worldwide.

I'm a die-hard amateur myself. I did the morning vigil in seeking Halley. I observed my first Mars opposition from atop a garage roof (...there's a story there about "seeing"!). I truly enjoy publishing a magazine written by astronomers for astronomers...ie. for you.

Hi guys sorry I havn,t been chatting for a while,lost my password,silly me,had to ask my daughter what to do to get a new one!
Is there any articles or news on Mr Dobbson and his star party in Australia in the latest magazine?
My kids would love to have him sighn there new 16" Doby lightbridge.
They spend all night out there with it , and now the holidays are coming up I will never get them indoors untill its real late, beats playing computer games I guess.
Is there a easy link I can use on this site to find more information on his visit, my kids will love it.

when John Dobson comes to Oz (almost every 2 years) he usually does the rounds of Astro Clubs (well, those that invite him), so there should be plenty of opportunity to catch him somewhere on his travels. I got him to sign my Dob when he came to Ballarat.

I think their circulation would go up (once they get printing sorted out) quite a lot if they interleaved their dates with Sky&Tel, that way people who "used to" be prepared to buy one issue a month still could and alternate between each one!

Even last night I picked up the latest Oz S&T to re-read some articles - I should have been going to sleep, having been out observing! Learning so much. Sad end to one article - the possible ultimate fate of earth - a recrystallised rocky lump floating in space with nothing visible in any direction

Hello again fellow Ice in space members,hope your weather is better than mine here in Canberra,might have to lash the shed down to stop it and the scope from shaking itself loose and blowing away right out of the back yard. "ITS VERY WINDY HERE"!
I,m wondering still if the new mag will have any info on John Dobsons tour down under, I,ll grab a copy for myself and the kids to see!
So where do I find a link on the site with this info, I,m sure there are others that would love to catch up with such an amazing guy!

Thanks allso bye the way to ken for the info, my kids are dying to get there Dob sighned,so you can imagine there driving me "NUTS" to find out When and where we can catch up with John when he arrives!
