Replacement of a 12" mirror would be very expensive in comparison I should imagine. It used to be an 8" primary for the GSO Newt was around $200, now it's near cheaper to buy the entire scope new.
I've often seen mention here of boxes custom built to ship mirrors, I sent mine in one of the small safe cases, packed in custom cut foam (more butchered with a Stanley knife but definitely custom). The case has provision for locks (I used cable ties) so no one tampered with it and it couldn't possibly fall open in transit.
Suitable size cases can be had from Supercheap auto on occasion for reasonable prices and when the mirror gets back they double as an eyepiece/camera/anything astronomy case.
