The site

Hi,
I'm just wondering if this site is having a near death experience as it is very placid compared to SGL and Cloudy Nights (obviously we have a smaller population, but still...), in addition the main page "updates" are advertisements from 2016, and the moon and sun rise and set times are wrong, listing a sunrise at 4 o'clock in the afternoon... I'm just wondering who is maintaining this site? Or did they die in 2016 as it would seem? Lol

Clear skies,
Mark

I can't answer your questions Mark, maybe contact Mike or Terry and ask them.

He’s a newcomer that’s pointed out the obvious. Why is that poor taste?

The obvious is some parts of this site have been neglected and need updating. What's not obvious is why it remains this way. Mark is hardly a newcomer, having joined in 2018, what he may not realise is that next year's calendars can be ordered and are very good. I've been buying one for the last couple of years as an additional Christmas present for my daughter. She loves them!

I think it's obvious what part of Mark's post people may find distasteful. Reading back, I did find his explanation for the site remaining in it's current state inappropriate.

I'll tell you what's offensive....
Joined in 2018 but woke up last Friday and has made a total of 7 posts since then....
Thank you for your contribution....

Where are you every morning when myself, David and Al go through and purge any old ads (older than 2 months) from the classifieds and manually move them to the archives?

Where are you when we have to respond and if need be take action to the PM's we receive from members asking for our help in various matters private matters pertaining to the site?

Where are you when every so often and many times throughout the day we check new members and verify their IP address to make sure thet're not spammers or scammers so that our members don't fall for any scams or click on malicious links???

Where are you when someone accidentally posts a thread in the wrong section or worse, posts profanity or attacks another member?

Where are you when I have to run the monthly photo challenge and all the associated work that goes with that each month so that we can have a bit of fun and announce 'a winner'.
I know it's not much but that's all we can offer you right now.

The site is in it's death throws?????
THE WORLD IS IN TERMOIL, OR HAVEN"T YOU NOTICED???

It's 2023, Mike and mojo have been my friends since 2005, how dare you insult them!!!
We all have families, we are not the young men we were back in the early 2000's running astro camps at Lostock and yearly IIS birthday competitions giving away prizes and generally having the time of our lives as friends.

To the many, many friends I've made here over the years, I thank Mike and mojo for that.

There are other sites that have up-to-date Welcome pages, seek them out if you wish.

As Mick stated next year's calendars are available to order if you need one.
As for the rising and setting times.....
We now have mobile phones that are milliseconds accurate....

I've just finished work and haven't had dinner yet....
I'll be up at 05:30am to go to work, but first I'll check the site to make sure all is in order (what parts I'm responsible for anyway).
