Isn't it properly called acetonitrile? It is somewhat dangerous but not nearly as toxic as inorganic cyanides. It's LD50 is 2460mg/kg which is not much more toxic than table salt (NaCl LD50 is 3000mg/kg). Perhaps the combination with alcohol increases the toxicity?
The trouble with HCN is that it is highly volatile, so best administered in a long cool drink on ice, or beer.
