Oh so tired

I haven’t reviewed the terms and conditions of posts so I’m not sure if this is going to be in violation but I guess I’ll find out. I’m hoping that being in a general chat thread it will be considered just that. I also pray that it doesn’t spark political debate because I feel the responsibility lies with us and not a third party. So here goes ....

I’m getting tired. I’m getting tired of being told that the world is dying. I tired of being told that the car I drive and the history of its evolution is a blight on the world. I’m tired of being told that biology is not scientific, it’s subjective. I’m tired of being told that the ideas of outliers control the actions of the majority. I’m tired of every extreme event being blamed on the collective rather than the individual. More than anything but attributed to everything, I’m tired of waking up each day being told that I should be so ashamed for being a part of the human race. From the dawn of time and throughout evolution things have been done and have occurred which with the befit of hindsight were not ideal. You know what though ? They are the reason for our existence. You may choose to think that our existence is “ The Problem “ but I’m sorry, I refuse to. I refuse to devalue the trials snd tribulations, the wars and suffering, the risks and the endeavor of our forefathers. I refuse to devalue the lives of the humans that have gone before us. Their successes and achievements are the most amazing things that make us us. The planet we live on is amazing, the universe in which it resides is amazing but I will not appologise for being a part of that. I will not feel ashamed for who I am as a human being. I will not be sorry that I belong to a species that has the ability to leave the planet it started on 4 billion years ago. We are who we are because we are human. We can learn to create a better future but we can’t make a better past. I’m tired but I don't want to be. I want my son to see the beauty and possibility of the future. I want him to embrace the challenges it presents and I want him to be proud to be human. What his generation does will probably be wrong. It will be wrong to his children and grandchildren if they chose to spend their lives looking back on it. He, as we and those before us, will be responsible for nothing more than their existence.

Our perception of the world has been warped and it’s time we warped it back and started getting excited to be alive again.

Cheers

Ryan

Sorry to hear that Ryan.. but things change. We're not the same society we were 100 years ago, or 1000 years ago.

Things change, meaning changes, we adapt.
There is no certainty is life, except change.

And as one of my best mates told me, rather nonchalantly once when I spoke about some great times we had together
"you can't go back".

It's easier (and sometimes happier!) if you ride the wave instead of surfing against it

To clarify, I embrace change but not for the sake of it. I’m happy to discuss new ideas and learn. What I’m tired of is shame, disgust or devaluing of the people before us being used as the motive for change. I want to live in a world that embraces the future and it’s opportunties instead of being told how ashamed i should be for what my fellow humans have created and given to our species.

When we first went traveling this great country some 13 years ago and still enjoying it to this day, Alice was very apprehensive and unsure that we were doing the right thing.

I said to her as we drove away. " Nothing lasts forever" and "It will all fall into place" things did change and things fell into place as the years past, and we could not be happier.

The truth will always be the truth but finding it by sifting thru the information offered in this age is very difficult.

Dont let your chain be pulled.

My late uncle who loved a good chilled glass of rosé wine in the summer heat used to say "keep cool and drink fresh while drowning" Says it all.

Thank you all for your responses.

I think or hope with time I will move on from the irritation to the wisdom you guys are displaying. I feel I have quite a good grip on reality and I am so far from a headline reader it’s not funny. I try to get information from both sides to form a balanced view. I think what I am so tired of is, as Alex so well put it, is the constant, relentless chain yanking.

Going with the flow isn't always the best option. Just ask the salmon.

What bugs me is the politicians and climate change.
If they dont agree that cc is real then they dont do anything. If they are wrong then the consequences are horrific.

That's quite a rant. But I'm not sure who or what the target of the rant is (i.e. who or what specifically you object to). I suppose I could guess. There's plenty of criticism flying about - and many people objecting to what used to be the norm years ago - so perhaps you've reached some threshold of negativity that's set you off. Some of those norms included outright racism, gay bashing, sexual assault and severe disenfranchisement of some social groups, so those seem to me to be legitimate targets of negative sentiment (in the media or elsewhere) because after decades they still haven't been properly fixed. But, sure, there are (apparently) narrow-minded views being piggy-backed on legitimate concerns. Keep in mind that you may not have been exposed to the negative behaviour that 'people' complain about, but that doesn't make it any less real for the those who cop it every day.

Then again, there's a federal election this weekend, so forgive me for thinking this is a well-timed "side channel" political advertisement.

I think I see part of your problem Ryan. For example, you don't get information from scientists and creationists to get a 'balanced' view on evolution, you just listen to scientists. You don't get information from physicists and fundamental Christians to get a 'balanced' view on how the Earth and Universe formed, you just listen to physicists & allied scientific sources.

The media constantly lets us down in the Trump fake news era in this regard, where palpably false things are reported in order not to appear to show bias. Truth and falsehood become equal in value, just two sides of a coin.

Cheers -
