Expertise Needed!

Hi all,
Since i now have money in my pocket i have a question for all the more experienced among you.
Ican afford a 12"Dob (Bintel premium) and a few accessories,(total$1200).
However i wanted to get the GSTAR-EX cam as well.
My question then is "Do i drop to a 10"Dob and get the cam as well or do i get the 12"Dob and save a bit more?
From the view point of the more experienced what would you choose to do?
I'd like to hear plenty of input on this one either for or against.
Thanks heaps in advance.
Cheers,
Duncan

Hi Duncan,

I can only speak from my own experience, and that is: get the 12" and get the G-Star later.

1. You'll get experience using the 12" while waiting to get the G-Star.
2. The 12" will give better light collection making imaging better.
3. The 12" will give better light collection making imaging better.
4. See above answers.

I used my 12" for quite a long time and got to know it well before I got into imaging with it. Had I rushed into imaging straight away I wouldn't know my scope as well, and I believe my imaging would have suffered from not being used to using it. When I did get into imaging, I was ready to take that next step.

What's the purpose of the g-star? What type of imaging do you want to do?

How are you going to track the dob?

Great choice Duncan. I've got a 12" on an EQ6 and love it.

You do understand the limitations and difficulties of Astrophotography with a Dob?

Hi all,
Yep, i certainly do Mike. However i have to start somewhere and going this way will give me plenty of practice at finding my way around the night sky.
So 12"Dob first and then the cam and then the mount and then and then and then!!!!!!!!!
The Missus will be impressed,LOL.
