I have the Aldi onezee in my size and its great, even has booties you can walk around in outside. I have used it in the observatory in mid-winter but yet to take it to the dark site. My dog does not like it, he barks at me.

What is the "thermal rating" of the suit. I had a look in the local Aldi but couldn't see anything on the packaging that said what temperature it was good for.

Having said that, if the suit handles minus five, then I'm prepared to look like the Easter Bunny minus the ears.

A onsie or full suit helps keep your body heat circulating around the suit, a parka and pants gives you cold kidneys. The Aldi onsies cost about $110 less than the Hepworth onepiece Freezer Suits that Geoff sells. The Hepworth suits are also available retail through some workwear stores. I haven't used the Aldi onsies just the hepworth's.

Has anyone used the aldi onsies standing/walking on grass in a heavy dew? They look like they'd absorb water around the feet. In a dry observatory, they look like they'll work fine.

I used a Hepworth freezer suit and Neos explorer over boots (purchased separately for about US120 from NEOS in the USA) in the arctic. Underneath, I only wore a pair of tracksuit pants and a tee shirt. One night in north Norway (latitude I wore it for 6 hours at -12 to -14C watching aurora without a warm up break. Then on Svalbard (latitude +78) Then I watched a solar eclipse for 3 hrs with the temperature around -23C. I was completely comfortable the whole time. Even had to unzip and let out some heat from time to time. Others wearing very thick down parkas and insulated pants were freezing. I do have a warm metabolism, I wear a tee shirt when others are wearing fleece.

Around Canberra during the winter - down to -5C I usually have to keep it unzipped unless it's windy. I haven't used the overboots around the ACT. Maybe this winter. Hepworth Suits are a top product and they work really well. They are also resistant to moisture. The only downside is that they are bulky to wear and to store. By way of context, I have a warm metabolism & good circulation, my feet and hands usually remain warm in the cold unless I get dangerously cold - hypothermic. If you are cold, it's harder to concentrate.

The Aldi Onezee is rated to about 0C, and the feet can be zipped off. I wear my snow boots and the legs extend down enough to cover the boots to the top of the foot. You would not want to walk too far in wet grass in the Onezee booties, they are rubber on the bottom so have some damp protection, and they are ok around a campsite or in the observatory. I find it very warm, even just sitting in a camp chair. They rollup into a ball like a sleeping bag so storage is pretty easy. The Onezee also has zip open side and leg vents to help control temperature.

I have been with Geoff and others wearing his suits at Bretti in winter and they work very well. Having not worn one of Geoff's suits i cannot compare them to an Aldi Onezee.

A big up for the Aldi suit. Had about 1/2 hour of clear skies last night so decided to test mine against the damp and the wind. Warm as toast for the full time. Got too hot walking around and had to sit down with a refreshing beverage!
High winds plus moisture are my bêtes noire, so the fact that I could have slept in the OneZee gives them a 10/10.
Highly recommended.
