The outback is dark

A jealous friend sent this picture to me...I do not know who took this picture or where it comes from but, I thought it was pretty cool...Sure looks dark west of Sydney!

Great innit, most of Australia is pitch black. Even from suburban Perth I can see objects like SP1, 3C 273 and the spiral arms of M83 Enjoy

I can remember when I was working as a Geologist in W.A. and we would be out on a field camp in the middle of no-where the sky would be that bright from the star glow you hardly even needed to use a torch. The milky way was like a glowing cloud from horizon to horizon.

great stuff

Speaking of dark skies it's shaping up to be a great night down my way. The skies are clear, the wind has died down to almost nil and the moon will be well set by the time i'm ready, after Dr Who of course.

should be a great night
