Lambda Cen. Neb.

Okay, last photo from last night's imaging... IC 2944, The Lambda Centauri Nebula (or part of it). It's also referred to as the Running Chicken Nebula, but this is only part of it, so good luck seeing a chicken here! The bright star in the field is Lambda Centauri itself, which is just "above" the Southern Cross (Crux).

This is a half-crop of 127x 45 second exposures (>90 minutes altogether). Taken with a 6" F/5 Newtonian and Nikon D5100 at ISO800 with IDAS LPF and HEQ5 pro mounting (with lousy polar alignment).

Well done Cam.

That's one I will have to shoot again with the 8" F4. I'm pretty sure I'll need more than 9 minutes though! It's not that easy of an object for unmodified cameras.

Yeah you can see even with 90 minutes I've pulled out very little, and the little Nikon is no slouch.
