M17 yet another single sub

Getting tired of bombarding everyone with single subs, but I've got
nothing else to do. Played with in DSS.
35 secs @ ISO1600 8" f/5 Newt.

Very nice. If I ever get even halfway towards an image like that I will be very happy indeed.

Great, could you give some idea of how you processed it?

Thanks everyone.
Kon, have you got, or thought of a light pollution filter? They help a lot.

Jo, 10.5 weeks since the weather allowed me to image anything.

Rrussell, You can take short subs with your 8SE if you get a T-ring for
whatever DSLR you have, and then it is just a matter of a little easily
learned basic processing with downloaded freeware such as Deep Sky
Stacker, and/or the camera's own software.

George, The image was taken with the camera's Long Exposure and
High ISO noise reduction functions enabled, and then basic RGB, Luminance, and colour
saturation was adjusted in Deep Sky Stacker [freeware]. I dragged it
into Canon's Zoom Browser EX and slightly increased the contrast, and slightly decreased the brightness. Cropped the image to frame it
nicely. Popped it into my ancient Photoshop 7 to downsize it so it
was under the size limit for posting in IIS. If I was more comp literate,
I am sure that I could find a much less convoluted way of doing it.
I use JPEG because it is more straightforward, although I have been assured by many members that raw will produce superior results.

Just looking through a lot of my single frames Ray, and my singles are very dim compared to yours even after stretching. I'm guessing your faster F5 scope does the job in quicker time than my F9 scope. I get there in the end but it takes lots of subs.

When I get some spare $ I'd like to get one of those fast newts.

Hi Kevin, your points could open up a whole new discussion. Firstly, not only is my scope at f/5 much faster than your ED 100 at f/9, but it has four times the light gathering ability too. Mine new is around $450, or
$250-300 used, and works just fine at prime focus, unlike many Newts.
Many members say that to use the in camera noise reduction feature
is a waste of precious imaging time. If using an ED 80 or even an ED100,
I would have to agree, but even using the noise reduction feature I can still get more imaging done than an 80 or 100 user can in the same
amount of time. Of course, I could get even more done if I disabled the reduction function, but I don't think SWMBO would be happy with all the
extra time I would spend on the comp.

Thanks David, much appreciated. Nice spot where you are; I used to live not too far from you, in Rosebery; beautiful when it's not raining.
cheers raymo
