Good question Raymo. I can't remember if I had it on or not.
I think it was off or it would take minutes before I got a preview.

Managed to find Octantis so I should be able to fine tune my alignment. But I think it was pretty good for this shot. 20 secs and no discernible movement. Well not to my thoughts. I guess that'll change as I get more learnered

yep, try to reduce subs to ~60s and take multiple and stack them with DSS. Probably for M42 no need to go longer...depends on ISO etc.

It would have only have taken 20 secs to get your preview; the same
length of time as your exposure.
