Refractor Telescope for AZ-EQ6 Pro Mount

Hi Everyone,

I currently own a CPC800 with wedge but I am looking into getting an AZ-EQ6 mount and buying a new refractor telescope for astrophotography.

I will still keep the CPC 800 and don't want to defork this but I am interested to see what telescopes people would recommend for the AZ-EQ6 mount and for astrophoyogrpahy.

I am currently looking at the Skywatcher Blsack Diamond ED120 and this costs around $2,500 and this would eb around my upper limit.

Anyway I am interested to hear any advice.

Regards,

Tom

Get the ED120. It's a killer scope. I have it's little brother the ED100. They perform beyond their aperture.

What sort of FOV are you looking at? For ulta-widefield I might suggest an 80mm APO (with a FR/FF, mine has a FL of only 384 mm). The ED120 will give you a narrower field, but still wider than your C8.

Thanks for the feedback Guys. I bought the AZ-EQ6 on the weekend and I think I'm going to get the ED120. I had a play around on Stellarium with the specs for this scope and had a look at the FOV's on vaious deep sky objects. This scope is what I am looking for in terms of FOV.

I'm going to buy the field flattener with it as well. This brings the telescope down from a f7.5 to an f5.

For one thing the FOV is much better than the CPC thats for sure.

Thanks for the advice.

Tom

Well, you can always buy an 80mm AND a 120mm - have your (widefield/medium field) cake and eat it too (and leave an even larger hole in your pocket ).
