Processing Challenge

This is 210 MB of 16 bit compressed tiff data as it came out of PixInsight. I have only reduced the size from the drizzled x2 to a more manageable x1.5 native pixel size.

It is an RGB of Carina. All this data needs is interpretation.

Please put up your efforts.

You can also put up your own interpretations anywhere you please.

The original file was a 786MB 32 bit fit.

Looks like you've already played around with the image. If you truly want to see what others can do with your data, be better to post the fits files straight out of image integration, still linear and not stretched or touched other than that.

Thanks for the linear data. Nice, smooth data there. Although there was some funkiness with the stars along the left and along bottom. Middle and top right stars ok. Field rotation maybe if you were guiding on a star top right somewhere?

Quick process in PI as follows:
BackgroundNeutralization and ColorCalibration to colour correct.
MaskedStretch to do an initial stretch without blowing stars.
BackgroundEnhance script I've recently discovered. Seems to work fairly well.
AutomaticBackgroundExtraction because there appeared to be a bit of a gradient to the bottom of image.

Troy the system still had a bit of flexure when this data was collected.

I have put turnbuckles on the RH200 rings as the RH200 was moving relative to the camera due to gravity. The very solid double bar the System is mounted on was twisting torsionally. This twist varied with mount orientation.

At F3 the CFZ is less than 20 micron. The PL16803 camera sensor has a diagonal of 52 mm which is larger than the fully corrected 42 mm field of the RH200. So even if everything was perfectly aligned and no flexure the corners would still not be as 'good' as the centre of the field.

The guide camera is on top of the RH200 rings.

The front turnbuckles are going to get a custom made crossbar ( like the one at the rear) which would then eliminate the tiny bit of flexure still present. I hope.

Had a crack, probably looks like fried carp.

All done in CCDStack (to convert the FIT to TIFF) then exclusively in PS. Didn't go anywhere near PI or MaxIM.

I changed it to a 32 bit tiff Allan. Same name etc

OK Bert,
actually I managed to open it in Fitswork4.
I just had to move the histogram sliders left & right to get the whole dynamic range in.
It then saved as 16 bit colour TIFF.

I started processing it in Photoshop but I can't come up with anything
better than what is already shown.

Perhaps I'll take a look another time.
