A Few Nightscape Attempts with the 1100D

G'day everyone,

I've been playing around with a 1100D recently and I thought I'd try some nightscapes with it.

All images taken with the Canon 1100D with the stock 18-55mm lens at 18mm F3.5, 30 second exposures at ISO 6400. Images were taken in large Jpeg with daylight white balance. Only minimal processing.

The last shot was a single 30 minute exposure at ISO 100, shame it was cloudy.

Cheers
Jo

Nice work Jo!

You might want to try ISO 3200 too.

Cheers,

Justin.

Thanks Justin! I'll probably normally use 3200 but as last night was quite cool (needed a jumper!) I thought I'd try 6400, they came out much better than expected.

Hi there, i love yr shots Jo!!! I got myself an 1100D last year with AP in mind tho I've been bitten by the photography bug in general and I'm really glad to have found these shots as it gives me an idea of what i should be able to do with my little camera and the kit lenses it came with. Great shots, now i know what I'm going to be doing tonight, lol. The meteor pic rocks but my fave would have to be crux and pointers with the coal sack etc next to the windmill. Happy snapping, Jo.

Thanks Jo, you certainly made the right decision about the 1100D It's noise performance is impressive for such a well priced camera!

If you like the Crux and coal sack, you might like to check out this little pano I did of the The Southern Cross, Coal Sack and Dark Doodad.

Cheers

Nice work Jo.. great example of what you can do these days with very affordable gear. That meteor you captured must indeed have been very bright!
