Photoshop out of memory error with 16GB RAM??

I have just bought a new PC to do astro processing, and have downloaded and installed photoshop CS5 trial.

When I try to open a TIFF saved by DSS (130mB), I get th error "Could not complete your request because there is not enough memory (RAM)"

The new system is an Intel i7 system running at 2.94GHz with 16GB RAM and an nVidia GTS450 1GB graphics card.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I have tried changing the preferences for the amount of memory that is allocated to PS, making sure a scratch disk is specified etc.

well - sorted it out. I was updating photoshop as I typed the original post, and the update seems to have sorted it out....

Are you running 64-bit? 32-bits apps are limited to 2GB of address space even if you have 16GB of physical memory.

Whoops...too late

I have the same problem but am using 32 bit win 8. Can't do anything without a ram error. Any suggestions (apart from a full upgrade)?
