Info Request - Speed Limit

Any Melbourne commuters that travel the Western Ring Road Northbound daily past Keilor East under the Keilor Park Drive Bridge can confirm for me what the speed limit along this section of road.

I believe that it is 100 km/h, though you'll find a lot of people are still doing 80 as they haven't adjusted to the removal of the roadworks speed limits.

Cheers

100km/h. Don't know the status of the road works, but there are speed limit signs everywhere that will display roadwork limits aswell so no need to worry.

Pretty much the entire section from the Hume to the Westgate is 100kmh now, from the Hume towards Greensborough is still 80kmh. Including the frustrating little bit in the middle that they have not even started the road works on.

I guess soon we will get to have massive congestion again every day when they pull an otherwise three and four lane roadway down to one lane over a couple of kilometres for another couple of years.

Something to watch, it was always supposed to be a "Managed" roadway so sometime soon they may start varying the speed limit section by section again. Nothing like trying to avoid being booked when no two consecutive speed limit signs say the same thing, and particularly disturbing seeing them change just as they go out of view (Too late to read) knowing that the cash cams are likely to be keyed into the speed limit of the moment.

Too late. I received a fine so I must have missed the speed change to 80km/hr whilst driving to the airport at around 9:50pm. I was really certain it was 100km/hr but clearly it wasn't. I travelled the same route 1 week later and I am really hoping that I didn't make the same mistake.

I have not seen that section at under 100kmh in months, or were they doing night works of some sort along there when you went through?

The only bit that I can now think of that has been reduced recently is Northbound around the Sunshine Av exit as they are doing "something" around there at the moment. I say something as I have no idea what.

Nope...no roadworks to be seen. It was a dream run to the airport for once...so I thought. Shame Vic Roads doesn't keep a log for those variable speed signs. I think I need to invest in a dash camera.

Ahh the good old traffic jam.
If they don't do work you get there slower and wreck your vehicles on ageing infrastructure.
They slow you down so they can go home to there families at night as well.

This thread is leaving me paranoid! 100kmh yesterday. It is one I do look at everysimgle time as I drive the road five times a week.

I don't have much faith in the cashcams, they have had too patchy a history in Vic with unrliability. Throw in a variable speed limit that could be anything from 100kmh to 40kmh at any given time and a couple of weeks delay in getting a ticket and they are more or less unfightable as who could remember what the speed limit was on one section of road that could be 100, 80, 60 or 40kmh at any given time of the day and if not 100, it could be lower for a matter of minutes. Even running a dash cam would not help someone like me, I drive an hour each way so even one with a big memory card at fairly low quality settings would fill the card and roll over long before you got any ticket in the mail.

Well I have to say I am impressed with the timely detailed response that I received from VicRoads requesting confirmation on what speed was displayed on the variable speed signs on the night and time in question. Clearly I missed the speed reduction so I will have to wear the penalty.

If you haven't received any traffic infringements in the last 3 years, you can apply for a official warning instead.
