Converting a 6" dob for AP

Hi all,
I currently have a 6" dob and will be upgrading to a 12" in about 3 months. Now, I could sell my 6" but you can get an 8" now for what I paid for a 6 so I will probably get $250 for it. My question is can I, instead easily convert the 6" to a basic AP scope. Is it as simple as getting tube rings and an eq mount. I read something about a eq platform powered by a clock motor. Does anyone know anything about this. If I have a light bucket for visual, it could be a fun project for the 6". If I have to get an eq mount, what would be the cheapest way to go and how do they fit to the scope. Sorry about the complete novice questions. I have never even seen one.

Converting a 6" dob for AP

Hi Jas,

You will probably find with your 6" dob scope that you may not be able to get the camera in far enough with the focuser to get focus if you use a DSLR. You may have to move the main mirror forward a bit in the tube. I'm guessing you have something like an F8. That would make a fine guide scope for a light bucket with a camera! I have a Nexstar 114mm (4.25") newt that I am going to set up as a guider for my 8" AP setup. It's a pretty ordinary scope but it should work well as a guider. I have made up a side by side bracket and have ordered the rings to mount it. Can't wait to try it out!

Cheers,
Ross...
