finally conquered the G11 (I think)

Finally managed to get the G11 to work last night after almost a year of tinkering. Managed to get a PE reading so i can compare to my old EQ6. The G11 has had a onvision worm installed by myself and i think i might need to adjust a bit more but i am not sure so i thought i might submit the graph to you fine people for feedback.

Graph on the left is the EQ6 although i am not sure if that is before or after i tuned it
Graph on the right is the G11

This is the topic I've been reading a lot on recently while I wait for my G11 to arrive from T&A. So thats 24.99 for the EQ6 and 7.01 for the G11 peak to peak. Which is pretty good however, using PEC you may be able to reduce it further.

From my understanding the results of the OPWB and the high precision brass worm are reported at as low as 5 sec peak to peak and the ovision unit at 3 sec peak to peak. These are just numbers from users on the net and vary from site to site.

Out of curosity what the periodic error of the mount of of box? Maybe understanding the issue there may help reduce the periodic error more.

Regards

Hello Manav

yeah it is some improvement from the EQ6 lol ... sorry i don't have a readout for the original worm as i replaced it as soon as i got this mount 2nd hand (didn't want to have to deal with the 76sec error).

I don't think i will be able to improve on this reading however as i have found the read out i got from Optique vision pertaining to this particular worm (they test each on before it ships) i have attached it for comparison. I was more concerned with the relative unsmoothness of the graph as a visual check shows no foreign matter.

the graph i received from Optique seems to show the same (even a bit more) 3.6 to 3.4 errors.

How did you find ordering the ovision worm...?? Easy enough process??

I'm thinking of getting one, before the dollar dives too much...

I would be happy with that PE. You should be able to guide the remaining errors with a OAG setup or PEC training.

Based on my experience, you can conquer Losmandy mounts, but they fight back and the next time you set them up you find that you have to reconquer them.

Lee ... i found it to be a relatively simple process just emailed my order form to them and waited ... they contacted me about a week before i got the unit (i only have one, the RA axis, didn't see a need for dec axis). And gave me a readout of the tests they had run on my worm... test which i have finally it seems proven true with my own readout.

Yes manav I am happy with these PE readings much easier to correct then the EQ6 horrors lol. I just don't want material in my worm mesh eating away at the brass worm

haha you are right Geoff ... but now I at least know i can beat it

that's a fantastic result Grady for all the effort you have put into it. So will we have another full tourettes filled evening at Duckadang this year ?

Alas I do not think I will grace the imaging field this year with a scope huffy i might show up one night for a visit but I doubt if the vulgarities of election season (and my job) will let me come... honestly who ever heard of starting an election campaign in August.

On a side note I found the EQ6 to be a good mount. Backlash and the tripod sturdiness being the biggest challenges. Most importantly balance is crucial with both mounts and can make a big difference.

If you remachine the clutch to be flat, get the lube right and replace the worm with the ovision one, they seem to work very smoothly every time. Add a SciTech and you have a killer system.

They are a bit of work to get modded into a performing mount, but then they are reliable.

Lee, ordering the ovision is easy, you just have to fill in their form and send it to them. Mine came very quickly.
