A man and his dog regard the Milky Way

http://www.pbase.com/gregbradley/image/150330185

Also a 14 panel mosaic of the Milky Way, each panel tracked on a Polarie
51/2 mins, which is difficult due to being unable to move the camera to any position on a Polarie.

5.5 minutes for each panel, for 14 panels?

Wow that's a serious effort. The starts would've moved more than 15 degrees over that time!

Looks great!

Thanks Mike.
It was quite an effort. Its amazing how the stitching software can handle it. There is quite an overlap on the individual panels though.

I did take a while. There are always panels that resist stitching for sure!
But resistance is futile!

Beautiful looking Milky Way there Greg, excellent but if I may give you my opinion...to me the man and his dog don't really work ... they look unbalanced, arbitrary even slightly contrived..? Without them the image looks pretty cool If you could see the whole person and whole dog with more even lighting, it would undoubtedly look better

its hard to include yourself in these images without it looking a bit contrived because of course it is. But my dogs do in fact come and visit me and watch what I am doing so in that sense not contrived at all and matches reality.

I have an image with the whole person and dog and better lit but using a fisheye so it is hard to defisheye but I can.
Thanks for the feedback.

I think the human/animal element in the picture is remarkably interesting, even scientifically interesting.

Dogs share our emotional life, to a remarkable extent, to the degree of understanding our moods, but without really understanding the complex concepts that can fill a human mind.

There is no other inter-species relationship like this, anywhere else in the animal kingdom.(there are a number of interesting theories around the 'co-evolution' of human and dog intelligence)

My dogs are good company at my dark site. They were particularly great when the grass was really long in summer and I was doing DSLR work and a bit paranoid about the possibility of a hidden snake. They are reassuring in that they would most likely detect anything alive nearby.

They also like to visit me for a pat or perhaps hoping I will kick the football and a bit of in the dark playing fetch the football.

It had to happen Greg.

The Milky Way has been shown in this forum over every conceivable landmark and landscape, over people, over cars, over churches and over graveyards (...sorry!..)...but who would have thought a doggy would get a look in!

Great idea and great photo.

Well done.

Ross.
