Meade LX200 10" Classic RA Drive

Hi all, while I am waiting for my autostar upgrade from George in USA I thought I would checkout everything else.

When I reinstalled the RA drive I am trying to get the correct tension on the worm gear , at the moment it has tight spots.

The only way I can get the correct tension is by adding a small piece of rubber under the mount to release a tiny amount of pressure from the main drive and it works well. But I don't think this should be done, pity there is no adjuster on it.

Is there something I am missing in adjusting.

Cheers, Shayne

the correct way to set the mesh is to place the worm gear carrier in a position so that the spring is half compressed with the worm and gear mating smoothly.

Then to stop the worm being forced out of smooth mesh when there is a heavy load you set the mesh stop screw so that the worm is kept in mesh without any binding.
