Saturn, Both sides of the rings. A six year animation

Hi All,

Becoming a bit bored with my temporary incapacitation. Have produced an animation, mostly around oppositions of the last six years, as we head toward a ring opening, relative to Earth, of approx 26 degrees in 2016.

Pretty neat Trevor, last time i looked at saturn when i was in Queensland back in the 90's, Got a new scope last weekend so if these dam clouds go away tonight i will have a look tonight.

Thanks HCR32. I first started imaging with 35mm film Ricoh then a Meade DSI, 35mm film Nikomat, Fuji FinePix S602Z via eyepiece projection then came the ToUcam which I used to discover my first Saturn electrical storm which lead to my DMK and filterwheel which took the first RGB in this animation and then to my Flea3 Firewire & Flea3 GigE cameras.

Thanks Mike, a lot of things happened on and around Saturn over the last 6 years, for sure. There seems to be less and less imagers in OZ doing planetary work, would you ever consider taking it on, we could sure use someone of your ability.

Reckon there must be a definition out there somewhere to describe a bloke that takes a photo of himself every day for 12 years, maybe some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder. Perhaps he should have got a life and maybe....tried astrophotography. Never know he may even have then made some sort of contribution to science.

Thanks Matt, every one of the 6 images in the animation features a significant event. My first SED's storm in the first frame was a very big deal back in 2008 and later became the longest lived storm at that time. Only when the rings are close to edge on do we see transits and shadow transits of Titan and one of those is featured here along with various other SED's outbursts, the mother of which was The Great Storm of 2010/2011 followed by the continuing evolution of the Great Storm Remnant in 2012/2013
