Refried Chook

When I last posted this data (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=102147) I had never taken a Ha pic before and my fist attempt left me thinking about doing better.

here is my reworking and It's a bit more how I would have liked it to come out the first time!

All advice gratefully received. Thanks for looking

Paul

EDIT

Added the old picture for direct comparison

That's the great thing about astrophotography there are so many ways to arrive at a result. Some changes and new tricks can lead to a completely different outcome from the same data! Changing the 'menu' for the fried chicken led me to a completely different look. More detail, more color and less noise. Since taking this shot I now know to use the red channel only from the OSC for the Ha giving a larger pic than the 2 x binning in this one. One of the tricks was in the first attempt I enlarged the Ha to the same size as the RGB, in the second go I reduced the RGB to the same dimensions as the Ha. This was the solution to reduce noise. I can't wait to get some data on a better subject the chook is 'tasty' but like most chicken dishes it needs a bit of spice to keep it interesting.

All the best

Paul

That's very interesting. Huge difference though. It looks great.
Would love to see a comparison of with and without Ha data especially since they're taken with an OSC. Something I'm dying to try out as well.
I still think taking all at 1x1 would yield good results. worth trying.
Did you use CCDStack to scale it down?
is your Ha 7nm?

Cheers

The Ha data provides a lot more detail to the finished product. The guide that I used was on the Starizona website and I followed the type 2 process to get a HaRRGB. I have produced another Ha picture with the Ha data at 1X1 Binning. You bring the OSC pics into CCDStack and tell it to extract the R channel everything else gets chucked.

I resized the picture with Photoshop. My Ha filter came to me from Gama Electonics when I got the QHY10. I'm not sure of the brand and I think it's a 12nm (low on $ at the time ).

All the best

Paul

A big improvement Paul - better detail and hues in the nebula, star colours are better and the star shapes look rounder in parts where they were previously elongated. Nicely done!

Thank you David,

There is so much to learn and now that I have a few more tools in my processing pencil box I look at my older attempts and there is a large temptation to reprocess a load of my old pics to see if I can improve them too.

All the best

Paul
