0.4 degree is pretty close ... in seqld occulation starts around 7pm aest ...but won't get to see it because of the weather ... hope someone gets some pics
I was wrong I didn't zoom in far enough and when I looked closely the occulation is early morning ... my bad

This is about as good as it gets in Sydney. There is cloud on the western horizon and at closest approach the Moon would be almost set. Sigma 150-500@420 autofocus, cropped.

Cool, I couldn't see it quite that far. If I had known that conditions were going to be reasonable I'd have moved to a different vantage point. Ah, well…
I took a squiz at Midnight just as the moon was sliding down to the horizon, saw something similar to your shot, with the clouds drifting by.
Ran inside to grab my son's camera, 300mm lens and tripod, but by the time I came back and plonked it on the stairs, bam, it had set behind the house up the street.
Perfect conditions up here on the mountain last night. Observatory visitors and I watched it unfold until ~0045, when the moon set behind the Southern Alps on the horizon.
Hopefully should have a nice set of pictures or two to post later.
I managed to capture them before sunset, I didn't even know that it was possible to see Jupiter in daylight, but there it was, a tiny white dot close to the moon. By the time the sun set, the clouds were everywhere. I couldn't see the occultation. But very happy to see Jupiter in daylight! I posted a photograph in the Solar System Image section if anybody wants to see.
