Dslr dew heater

I'm after dew heater and power supply for a D800e and 14-24. I need to run it on battery power and have a runtime of around 10 hours.

Can someone tell me what bits i need and where is a good place to buy it from.

Thanks in adavance.

A friend of mine just bought a similar setup.

Then he got a 7Ah battery from Jaycar for about $40 plus a lead with clips and a lighter socket for a few $ extra.
Then he got a battery charger from Super Cheap Auto for about $50.
Unless you want to DIY I really don't think you could do it much cheaper!

I find these batteries below are great I have 2 of them.
And they have a charger that comes with them and when the battery is fully charged the green light goes out
leaving the red light on which means it is fully charged.

AU $24.89

That looks really good!
It sounds like it will output about 1A which would be plenty to run a short dew heater

There is only 1 thing you have to get a adaptor from a usa plug to Australian wall plug and they only cost a few bucks as usa has straight pins and our pins are on a angle.

That firefly strip, I assume that you get a pair of strips in onr pack? My lens barrel circumference is about 10 inches so I'm thinking of getting the 5inch version, assuming there's 2 strips in the pack this should cover the whole lens barrel. Or would I be better off with the shorter ones in regards to battery life?

Thanks.

There's only one to a pack. If it's the Nikon 14-24 you have then you'll need the 4" strap as according to this: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/14-24mm.htm it has a diameter of 3.9". That's a big lens!

Wouldn't I need to match the length to the circumference of the lens, rather than the diameter, which is about 10 inches?

Yeah, its a beast of a lens.

Kendrick heaters are specified by diameter, so 4" should be right - they are listed as being 25x370mm

We were at the Tip of Borneo last weekend imaging with the Sabah Stargazers. It dew like buggery. A friend was using D600 with 14-24 to shoot The Crux and Eta Carina getting 300 sec subs using the Polarie. He gets by with Daiso chemical handwarmers strap to the front of the lense.

Cheers

I've been using those but i want someing that i can leave unattended for about 10 hours, in cold conditions the hand warmers need to be swapped every few hours. I also dont like putting a bag of charcoal on my expensive lens.

Although the 8 hour version is adequate for most cases they do sell the 16 hour warmers. Bigger I usually use a pair for the C8.

Yes they do need to be wrap as intended to prevent heat loss blown by the cold wind

Cannot beat them when there is no power supply or inadequate power source.

Cheers

I bought a pair of USB heated gloves for a couple of dollars, they have 2 removable heating pads.
They will run all night on my Jumpstarter battery pack with built in USB socket.
Or you can just buy the heating pads on their own, but they cost more than the gloves.
So all up it costs around $50 including the jumpstarter.
