The passing of Funky Claude

I suspect that many IIS members will know the line "Funky Claude was running in and out, pulling kids out the ground" from Smoke on the Water. Funky Claude was Claude Nobs, founder of the Montreaux Jazz Festival, which presents much more than just jazz (eg BB King, Radiohead, Johnny Cash, Ice-T). Starting with 1,000 people in 1967 it now attracts 200,000 and runs for two weeks. There are about 400 albums entitled 'Live at Montreaux' (or similar) and the complete Miles David at Montreaux is a 20 CD set. All this made Claude probably the best known music promoter in the world.

Claude passed away on 10 January aged 76 following a skiing accident. He left the world a better place and will be missed. His legacy will live on.
