Comet C/2012 K5 - LINEAR w/animation

Hi All,

I was testing out the Atik on the ED80 on the 18/1/13 and decided to see if I could get any pics of Comet Linear.

There were some wispy clouds on ruining some of the shots, but I successfully stacked them using Comet and Stars mode on DSS and then decided to create an animation, just for fun. You can certainly see the differences on each sub and it seems I may not have had the cooling on......D'oh! as there was noise and hot pixels on the subs.

VERY faint, about Mag 12.5 on Stellarium, these are 15 x 3 min subs taken between 12:40am and 1:30am on the morning of the 18.1.13 AEST.

I reduced the native 1300 x 1000 resolution to 640 x 480 for the animation to keep the file size down. (1.8Mb)

This little sucker moves pretty fast

Animation is here, I have attached a JPG of the stacked shot.

You may have to download the file to make it animate.

Enjoy.

Cheers

Chris

Thanks Laurie,

I had another look, it seems the tracking was a bit naff, oh well, it was fun assembling this...first time for everything.

Cheers

Great comet image you've got there Chris, and the animation really shows how fast it moves. Very well done

Thanks Rolf,

Its the movement between the subs when I was scrolling through them that actually made me think of doing the animation, that and the fact the tracking was pretty ordinary due to PHD having a cow when a wispy cloud drifted by.

I appreciate the compliment.

Cheers

Chris
