What is needed for Autoguiding

Hello:

I'm receiving my Meade back from Meade repair and got a neat 60 some mm fl, 2" eyepiece. Those are available from Russell Machining, Gary Russell as
Konig eyepieces.

Here's my question: can a person Autoguide (like with an ST-237A or ST-2000XCM) with their Meade LX200GPS 10" F10 even if the scope hasn't been aligned (2 star), like the alignment that allow the use of the database of roughly 100,000 some objects?

I'm saying that because I'd like to still Autoguide, but found it so hard to understand my Meade, and aligning it, that I haven't done that for so long (the align thing). And have never yet successfully Autoguided either.

Like what's the typical error in Autoguiding?

I'm sorry about not always understanding the math that goes into it either.

But I'd like to try to get a grip on those equations of how accurate using
a fl of lens or scope it needs to be to not make the image smear, or make stars trail.

PS: the new Comet 2013 S1 ISON that sounds really cool, at how bright it
could get to become.

david there is no magic in doing a basic alignement on a fairly advanced scope such as yours
it is very important and would make autoguiding so much easier in the long run
the star alignement is very important because it tells your mount precisely where on earth it is situated!
get used to it!
