A picturesque Moon / Venus pairing – Brisbane 14th August 2012

Hello,

After my recent series of wide field images of the current picturesque morning conjunctions, I decided to image the Moon / Venus pairing on Tuesday morning, 14th August 2012. The brightness variations were so extreme that I decided to wait until twilight and then grabbed a series of 10 photos at 1/3 stop intervals. These were then loaded into SNS-HDR Pro which rather cleverly spat out this result.

This is the 1st time I have ever seen an application succeed with HDR attempts at the bright lunar terminator. Venus is some 49% illuminated and the phase can be seen as almost ˝.

Cheers

Dennis

Here is a composite with an inset at top right showing the full res size of Venus. Image taken through Vixen 102mm F9 refractor with Vixen 0.67 Reducer/Flattener, giving an effective focal length of 615mm at approx. F6. Camera was the Canon 7D.
