NGC6188 HST blend 200mm widefield

Sticking with the program here's my rendition of NGC6188. Big learning curve for me so not perfect. I need to sort out my data acquisition especially Sii. Oiii is a little iffy as well with heavy LP and skyglow on humid Friday night. When I have some more decent data I will try again and complement.

So the blend is R(Sii)6h G(Ha)2h B(Oiii)2h. I shot this with a QHY9 and a SMC Pentax-M 200mm stopped at F/6 Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night from my backyard.

There's a HD version here [2.56MB] and a full frame 1:1 here [6.45MB]

I'll try to post a how to on the blend later on when I've put something together. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Paul. I wasn't too sure on the colors but after checking with a few NB aficionados they seem correct. I just need a lot more data.

Very nice blend, mate. Stars don't look too magenta. Look forward to your howto.

Thanks mate. Finishing off Eta and the prawn now as well. Did you get the mini PS file I sent? I'll email you another one of NGC6188 in the same format.

Looks really good Marc, seems we might be seeing more colour shots from the Frogenator now..? :thumbsup and that'll be a useful size field in and around Sag, Serpens and Scorpio etc!

Cool. Might have fallen in my junk folder. Will check. I sent another couple last night. Looking at it I think it might be worth consolidating the first few steps in a small action as it's quite repeatitive and gets you in the ball park colours.

Thanks Mike. Yes I might slowly get into shooting Sii and Oiii from home instead of Ha now as I pretty much shot anything I could think of in Ha. In the SE anyway. I have a lot of things to sort out still with data capture and need to guide 20min and over so got rid of some flexure in the camera/lens holder. Next one to come is Scorpio (prawn, dark tower and the Lorenzi nebula) . Still processing it.

Very interesting image Marc and I'm sure it was challenging to bring together. You wouldn't believe it but out of the blue Peter Tan produced the exact adaptor I needed for my Pentax recently. This was actually the first thing I planned to try - a NB 6188, so nice to see how the master of widefield has tackled it

Would also be very interested in your processing, especially any PI workflow you might have.

I used PS for this one. Unfortunately I'm not proficient enough in PI to tackle blends yet. That's Troy's dpt. I reckon you could do a better job in PI. Here's a quick run down on things that may help and why based on early experience.

1_ Pixelmath the two lowest channels (ADU) to the highest so usually Sii and Oiii to Ha. I use CCD Stack with int mode for this on a background small selection and check the ADU levels. so if I have Ha 100, Sii 20 and Oiii 50, I'll add 80 to Sii and 50 to Oiii.

2_ Once you've done the pixel math operation stretch the Sii and Oiii (within reason) OR lower/compress the Ha so your 3 histograms have a similar amount of samples.

3_ Combine colors 1:1:1.

4_ All the rest is done in PS which I'll post on later.

Nice image Marc! Good to see some colour from you too. How about stretching it a bit more? ... Give it some more impact.

Cheers, Marcus
