Question 1 modded Lifecam HD + No Idea = Mars as a Star

Well, I finally found a spare eye piece and proceeded to mod my expensive HD cam ($40...gotta love it ). Mod went well so off I went outside and figured it didn't matter what the seeing was like....my huge 3" scope was gonna take a bloody photo or die in the attempt.

Happy to say that the cam worked well....really realised that a barlow would be great.....and found that Mars is really a star...no really...it is.....couldn't be the lack of skills I have...hee hee...

Anyway....not the best pic of Mars but I'm happy the thing actually worked. Now just have to upskill myself from completely inept to slightly useless...

Only way is up from here....

No lack of skills there Nick, you have a good result, mars is dead round & quite sharp, Prob need to drop the exposure if possible ?
Good stuff

Looks like a planet to me Nick, sort of.

Those eureka moments are quite rare and lots of fun. Enjoy this one.

As you say, only way is up. Wait till you get some surface details....THEN you will holler.

Cheers

Chris

Bloody oath mate, point that thing at Saturn and give yourself a chance!
Mars is a cruel mistress.

Sounds like a good idea. Trying to keep Mars in sight was hard. Will try with Saturn once bloody clouds go.

moon would probably be even better Nick - a 3 inch scope with a 2x Barlow and a webcam can do very tidy lunar images. regards ray
