I have been trying to make sense of the marks on the wedge degree marker they run from I think 85 at the top of the rod to 20 at the bottom but if I raise the wedge till it is close to 21 there is no mark for it but the angle is too big for 21 degrees. I know it must be me not understanding it properly I haven't been able to find anything on google or in the instructions to explain it please help.
It looks like the angle from 90 degrees, meaning if you START from the mount tipped over so it is horizontal (90 degrees angle from the head to the tripod.
If you want to set it to an angle of say 22 degrees for Mackay, then subtract this from 90 and that leaves 68. If you tip it to 68 and measure the angle with a protractor from the horizontal, you should find the mount is at 22 degrees tilt.
That's my take, make sense? I could be wrong, however....

Thanks Chris, Yes it makes sense more sense than the markings at first I thought that the numbers were the wrong way around but the bar can only go on one way.
It mentions you simply loosen it and tilt it UP to the angle of your latitude, if the bar is upside down, then you have the problem shown....
If you assembled it and put the bar in, smack yourself upside the head.... if it was like that from the factory, then some numbnut there needs a smack in the head.....

I had a look to see if it was installed wrong but it will only go on the way it is. By the way it was installed when I got it so I am not the numbnut.
Is there a scale on the back of the rod, perhaps in the upside down orientation?
If there is, maybe you can simply flip it over if the securing hole is only at the top....
Otherwise, the numbnut at the factory stamped the rod angles upside down on the metal.....
Use an angle or a protractor to set it to 22 degrees and fine tune using drift alignment and then maybe mark it with tape or scratch (eek) a mark where home latitude is....?

I have attached pic's to try to show what I mean.
Hi Warren.
If you remember that by using the wedge you are aligning with the North (or South) Celestial pole, I think it makes sense.
The Celestial pole being over the pole, if you lived on the equator (Lat 0*) you would need the wedge to point the scope 90* to align with the Pole. Right?
Whereas, if you lived at 90* you would have no angle on the wedge as it would point straight overhead.
Or have I missed something?

No there isn't a scale on the back Chris looks like a protractor it is and a scratch (eek) will be what I do.

Thanks Allan I will spend some time pondering your advice until I understand it. Its not that you aren't making sense I only just woke up
Warren, see if this early post of mine sheds some light. Everyone except me seems to just know that you set it to to your "Co Lattitude", not your actual lattitude!!
