Cats Paw over Sydney

Hello,

A clear night again in Sydney last night!

I pointed the 135mm lens with Ha filter to the Cats Paw Nebula.

Canon modded 350d.
20 x 10min exposures.
No darks or ICNR.
Olympus F2.8 135mm lens set at F4.

What do you think?

Thanks for looking.

Ross.

Except that is not the cats paw. That is the Lagoon, trifid and NGC6559. Looks pretty reasonable though.

Lagoon over Sydney

Ha Ha....

Sorry guys.

It really was a bad night! (..shouldn't drink and image!..)

The Cats paw was my prevoius image.

The title should be "Lagoon over Sydney". Is there any way I can change the title?

Sorry for the confudsion.

Paul and David, thanks for your kind comments.

The Trifid has always looked like a cats face (..or the other end!..), maybe that's what confused me!!...............

Thanks.

Ross.

Hi Jennifer,

The Cats Paw Nebula is near the tail of Scorpius.

It's NGC number is 6334.

Unfortunately Mr "Blind as a Bat" mixed up his files and titles.
What I have attached is a Ha photo of the Trifid and Lagoon nebulas over Sydney.

Here is a photo of the Cats Paw Nebula.

Thanks.

Thanks Greg, thanks Marc.

Using the Ha filter with my DSLR lenses has opened up a whole new area of imaging opportunities for me.
No longer do I have to wait to get away to Wiruna or Coonabarabran every couple of months. I can now set my mount up in the back yard and practice whenever I can. Although the images are only in B&W, they look ok to me and I also get to learn where all the less common objects are.

You need to train the Labrador better Ross. It's taken you to the wrong bit of sky Mate.

As a lagoon and Trifid it's not to bad. The bit hanging off the bottom of Lagoon does look a bit like a paw (NGC 6559).
Sorry for the sarcasm.

Thanks David.
The Trifid looks like a cat so maybe the "cat's puddle".

Louie, I could have typed with my eyes shut and made less mistakes when I started this post. Thank you.

Thanks John and Beren. A wide SLR lens with a Ha filter is fun and easy. Although my processing is very basic, I like the B&W look and as I said before, no need to go to a dark site or wait for the moon to go.

Thanks Doug. Don't worry, I deserve the jokes and sarcasm. Lucky I wasn't doing my internet banking that night!
My wife is still laughing!

Cheers.

Ross.

Now that looks better Ross. Cats paw and the Lobster. The Ha is great fun isn't it. You get a good image with detail to burn. Once you get the size up a bit you can have some real fun extracting so much detail you won't believe it. It is a great medium for city dwellers and does teach you a lot about processing, sharpening and contrast.

Nice work Mate.
