its been cancelled for a few months now. Cheyenne Mountain Productions run out of money.
Edit: Oh wait, excuse me, I was thinking of Star Gate Worlds (the MMO).

Yeah it was starting to get interesting, but it's what always ends up happening to sci-fi

I thought it was crap too.
I certainly won't miss it coz I gave up watching it anyway.
Liz says: "but it was sci fi!!"
Yes, but it wasn't interesting Sci-Fi.
Worldwide popularity for this series dropped incredibly.
Let the people speak - they did - now it's ending.
Even 'Enterprise' in the Star Trek series is starting to die.
Some things just don't survive unless they exceed previous versions. Stargate didn't.
Something new needs to come along, not re-hash and re-write older series into newer series.

I've heard from a few people that Stargate Universe was pretty pathetic so I didn't really expect it to last long. I think they did really well with Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, they should have left it at that. Or continued Atlantis instead of starting Universe which was clearly a flop.
OR, they could have brought back the character of Jonas Quinn, that would have salvaged the show

As usual I found that it was getting real good and it is axed the start to me was disapointing but I persisted with it and now am disapointed that I will be unable to see where it was heading it was really starting to find it's legs but as happens alot they lost a huge chunk of their audience with a poor beginning.

What it clearly needed to satisfy the teenage audience was a vampire twist.

Another scifi show bites the dust, it's a genre that really does not get a lot of airtime, yet the devotees to it are regular.
Due to tv stations putting it on at poor times I tend to buy the DVDs and watch at my leisure, just finished season 2 of FRINGE , bit like a modern X Files, the Aussie who plays Walter is very good, it's funny to watch the extras and listen to his Aussie accent..... Just a real nice Aussie bloke

It's all about how you measure ratings.
Sci-Fi in general suffers in this area today, as most people who watch it are technically literate and will use un-conventional means to watch there favourite shows that do not register in conventional ratings cycles.
I think they also lost audience with the change of focus and style for the show. Most people were used to the action, adventure and lighthearted nature of the first two series, and then get hit with a dark, brooding, character drama set in space.
If they had condensed the action and adventure of the current 30 episodes into the first 10 episodes, I think they would have found a winner.
I still enjoyed it for what is was.

just finished watching stargate universe...
not happy that it was canceleld but understand that these things happen.
my thoughts:
1. it would have been good if they had a few more episodes to finish the series, rounding it off. plus, since the entire franchise is now finished it is ab bit disapoointing that they did not do that, especially for the loyal fans.
i can think of a few storylines that would work in about 10 episodes.
2. a new business model is needed: that is, not just making money from selling to cable companies and other stations in the US and overseas, nor just DVD sales nor advertising. What about subscrption of about $0.50 per episode. I reckon they would make way more from that than DVD sales, easily paying for the cost fo production and more.

You want us to PAY to watch it!
I didn't watch it when it was FREE!
It was a flop. Admit it.

i thought series 2 was picking up and there were some good story lines there.
plus, the overall theme (destiny's mission) that came into the series was excellent. not mentioning it because of SPOILERS.
i would have paid $0.50 per episode.

Maybe if they let Peter De Luise to do his thing on 'Universe' it may have worked.
Every series that Peter De Luise has had anything to do with have been successful, whether as an actor, writer, Director or Producer or all at once (21 Jump Street, SeaQuest DSV, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, The Other Side, 3rd Rock from the Sun).
In 'Universe' he was only given limited Directing and acting responsiblities and no Producing. Not a good way to treat someone who knows how to make a show work.
