Dam lucky or unlucky?

Coming back to Drake last night around 9 pm I got nailed by two rocks ..one thru the side window one thru the back hatch.

Another which I spotted the first, a large one (400cm approx), about 20 ft in front and 9 ft above the ground I swerved and it missed the windscreen but the other two got me as I passed where the culprits where throwing from...

Rang the police but talking to folk at the pub was told of many folk who had been hit over the years..

All have a fair idea who are responsible but the police are powerless.

Notwithstanding the cost of damage I see it as good luck because the big one did not get me..if it had I think it would have killed me or at least caused me to crash at approx 100klms per h.

But the best thing is for once I did not get upset and try to hunt them down and kill them etc and went on to have a most wonderful night at the Drake Pub Xmas party.

This is the second time I have been hit in this way..the first only months ago a little South of Brooklyn ..that one was at 110 klms per h and I shudder to think if it had come thru the windscreen or the drivers window and not the rear window how I would have survived..only a split second again between car damage and a broken head...

God to here you weren't hurt. I had the same happen a while ago. Unfortunately around here there are a lot of oxygen thieves who think its a jolly good laugh to rock cars off overpasses. I lost my windscreen and was left with a large dent in the corner of my roof. I would like to catch the little darlings and throw them off an overpass when a car is coming.

Coming home from somewhere about 6 months ago my wife and I (in seperate cars at the time, about 10min apart) were hit by various objects in our local area. Her car was hit by a bottle and 2 eggs, my car by 2 eggs. The eggs were far from harmless, cracking the paintwork with lots of small cracks/fractures leaving permanent dammage. The whole incident was quite a shock, leaving us in a bit of a state of shock at the time. Rang the police but I doubt they cought those responsible. "Idiots" doesn't begin to describe them.

This is akin to attempted manslaughter it's surprising the Police are not more actively seeking the culprits or the council installing camera's to deter the little ****es

Glad to hear you're in one piece Alex.
Perhaps you're the wrong man to tell but the law is sometimes a toothless tiger!
Can I recommend a DVD - "Death Wish"

ps...DISCLAIMER: only joking!
(perhaps a few teeth left)

Wow mate, you were very lucky I'm glad you weren't hurt at all. Still makes me so angry that people see this as fun when it could really hurt somebody. And that it would take something like that to happen for them to realise the severity of their actions. Grr!!

I'm glad to hear your safe Alex which is the important thing.

As a motorbike rider I always treat overpasses with a lot of caution considering what idiots have done over the years.

Good to hear your ok alex

I had a similar experiance a few years back , only it didn't break the window, I actually didn't know what happened as it shattered a small piece of glass right up near the top of the windsreeen . got home and found blood on my forehead and went to the hospital in the morning as I'd likely rubbed some splinters into my eye .

same deal others who live up the small country road
correctly named where it happened, gotta love that about small comunities , the ratbags are well known.

I'm appalled at how many people I hear about in the news that are either killed or permanantly injured by idiots that throw rocks at passing cars on motorways. It is literally akin to randomly firing a gun with live ammunition at passing cars.

Hi Alex,
I am sorry but I cannot understand how the Police are powerless to do anything. RATTLE SOME CAGES!, SOMEONE COULD BE KILLED.

Greg.

Well, this kind of things are happening on Melbourne freeways as well.
Surveillance cameras placed on bridges and other appropriate places would be very helpful to catch the culprits.
BUT... those cameras are NOT going to generate any revenue for the state (the existing ones are installed only for detecting speeding or other offences done by drivers.. to punish them and collect fines) .. so they won't be installed, ever...

My response was prompted by Alex stating that.....

"All have a fair idea who are responsible but the police are powerless".

I'm quite surprised to see how many have experienced this, apparently it's quite common, sadly.
We had a similar incident, which was fatal, in Auckland some years ago. It caused quite a stir in the media. The idiot got 4 years and was soon paroled - absolutely pathetic. He should've been locked up forever and the key thrown away IMO.

Sorry to be tardy on getting back to this...thank to everyone for your thoughts and input.

I have established that approx 20 cars have been hit over the years at the same spot.

What has happened ...zip.

I guess out here unless someone is killed it is of no consequence.

I heard of an attack recently (with a knife) that would have brought a charge of attempted murder elsewhere but no arrest followed.

It gets me ..they are heavy on Drink Driving ..which must be about protecting life and yet this incident to which I refer saw no charges...

The best thing I got out of it was to practice the "turn the other cheek" thing and although not a Christian I can see how this approach works as I have not lost sleep over it nor do I wish to seek revenge.

It makes me realize that the initial loss is one thing but the bigger loss is the way one stews over a loss for weeks months or years after that causes the greatest damage.

So it is an ill wind that blows no good at all.
