anyone else having trouble with latest skychart (CdC)?

Downloaded the latest version of SkyChart 3.2 (Cartes du Ciel) and it's just not the same. Doesn't seem to remember what coordinate system I select after moving around. It just seems buggy and funky. Wondering if anyone else is having issues with it? Both Mac and Win versions.

I'm about to downgrade to a previous version that I loved.

Object locking still seems broken.

When you find a new object as well as going there it should unlock the chart. You have to remember to unlock, refind or click the new target and relock, otherwise when you change the FOV it jumps back to where you were before.

catgen seems a bit less flakey.

Right clicking an object doesn't seem to pop up the menu anymore. That might be a Linux specific bug. I haven't tried it on Windoze yet.

I didn't even like the last version!
I deleted it and went back to an older version

So I doubt I will ever bother with the new one you tried.

Strange...seems im the only one that actually prefers the latest version!
I dont use differenct co-ordinate systems so i cant comment on that, but i have had the same experiences Andrew mentioned in regard to locking/unlocking particularly because i use the software with DSC's. I find it a bit of a pain too but i have to deal with it because the new version of CdC is the only one that allows me to perform an alignment correctly! *Shrugs* I have a few other older programs like the sky 6, but it does not align well with the David Eks Box DSCs. Im not sure why.
Maybe send the developers of CdC an email and tell them of your troubles. Feedback always helps. I want to make a few suggestions, like re-alignment on an object after an initial alignment, and a clearer indication of where to go when im on a particular object and want to move across the sky to another (big arrows or something so i can see it easily when standing away from the laptop).
On a whole...I like the new CdC. It does what i need it to do and its freee! Personally i feel the new version looks less free than previous if you know what i mean.

Cheers
Jack

I just installed the x64 windows version on my indoors AMD. Fast and stable, but I just use it as a basic starchart indoors. I'll install it on the obs Dell for actual scope driving tomorrow, clouds willing.

I don't even know what "Object locking" means, so can't comment on that, but a right click on an object brings up a menu OK. I ordered a salad

I keep going back to the 2.76 version too. I like the arrangement of the menu buttons better, although, this is really only because I`m so used to them.

You may be clicking on the wrong buttons. The buttons on the side no longer select the preferred coordinate type. They are just a shortcut to a view with those coordinates on the label. Very similar to the FOV buttons.

The new coordinate buttons are up the top on the toolbar under the menu bar.

I'm using the Mac version 3.2, but think it was the same when I looked at the Win 3.2 version. Try this:

I like equatorial mode by default. On the menu down the left hand side of the screen I have Equatorial Coordinates enabled. Display is fine. The view is centred on the SCP. If I hit the down arrow I used to be able to see the southern horizon. Now it won't go down.

But if I hit the up arrow the sky scrolls all the way to the NCP/Polaris and this shouldn't even be visible from here. Yes, my location/observatory is set to Brisbane.

I used to hit "S" for south view, "E" for east. With this version if you hit "S" it changes it's settings to Alt-Az coords display against my wishes.

That is what I am trying to tell you. The buttons on the left hand side no longer select the default coordinate type. They are just a short cut to a temporary chart/view with the coordinate type you select, centered on the direction you click. Ie, South becomes centered on the South celestial pole, not 45 degrees up from South on your horizon.

To select the default coordinate type use the buttons up the top marked EQ. In windows when you mouse over the button the label "Add Equatorial Grid" appears. You can also deselect the Alt Az grid with the button next door to it.

Its not a bug as such, they have just changed the function of the buttons on the left hand side.

Think of the buttons on the left hand side as chart type. The view you are used to is an Alt Az chart with EQ grid overlayed. When you click EQ on the left hand side now it takes you to an EQ chart with no local horizon or Alt Az coordinates, but it does not change the default chart type.

To get what you are used to select AZ on the left and EQ up the top. Then save your settings.

I too, do not like the supposedly better functionality of the latest version.
Removed it & went back to v2.76.

Seasons Greetings.
