Good observation spots in Adelaide?

Well next weekend im planning on going out for a bit of a drive to find an ideal spot within about an hour of the City to spend a good 5-6 hours under the skies...

I know Adelaide very well but am unsure as to how far or which direction to go to get away from all of the different pollutions in the sky to really make my little outing worth its trouble...

Any suggestions from fellow southerners?

Contact ASSA www.assa.org.au to see if anyone is going to Stockport (North). The moon is not good at the moment though.

The ASSA hold one of their monthly meeting at the Tooperang Hall (Members Only), but they are not there next weekend so might be a good spot for you.

My parents have a farm not far from there & that's where I set my equipment up. Good clear skies with no light pollution, but their hasn't been a cloudless weekend there for weeks.

This is not a good idea. Apparently several issues arise from using this site without ASSA being involved. First off, going there without permission is trespassing. Secondly, there is no public liability coverage if you just lob there without permission. Been through this before and in the end it was easier to find something else.

My suggestion is Clayton Bay park lands at Clayton Bay. It is right next door to the boat club and there is several hectares of room. You can setup there free for charge and no one will harrass you. It is about 1 hour and 10 minutes from the city. I would suggest though that going there the following weekend will be better. No point going to a dark site when the moon is near its peak.

Didn't think of that, ignore me then.

UPDATE:
Just spoke with someone from the Ashbourne Hall Committee, they say there would be no problem with anyone using the Ashbourne Oval, as long as they respect the area & don't make a mess.
It's been a while since I been pas it at night, so I don't know how dark it would be, but I will go past this weekend & take a look.

It's located HERE
