I've have the old 2g version i bought from the states for almost 3 years so i'm planning to get the 4g when it comes out. I'm definitely looking forward to getting it but there's nothing really that ground breaking about it this time around, IMHO. I like the idea of the upgraded screen, i saw a friend's HD2 and the resolution was noticeably nicer, so better res on the 4g will be nice. I also really like the idea of glass on the front and back! The back of my phone is so scratched up, it looks really shabby! It'll be nice to stick a screen protector to both sides to keep it nice and shiny.

Looks pretty good but I'll wait another year when the contract ends on my current model, wouldn't be surprised if there's another update then

I thought the iPhone 3G was a sleek, stylist, do-all phone. Now just look at ththe new version!!! I like the look of it. Sounds exciting. Many people are critical of Apple for various reasons, but you cannot fault their drive to experiment and push new boundaries. I have been a dedicated Nokia mobile phone user since the early 1990's but once I switched to the iPhone 3GS, there is no turning back. You watch all the iPhone clones take off now.
(And soon to be an iMac convert).

I must say this is good timing for me. I've just been looking into finally jumping on the Iphone bandwagon, and buying a 16GB 3GS. With the Iphone 4 announcement, it's already dropped from $879 to $799. And the 32GB version is now down to $879.
With that in mind, I think I'll still go ahead with the 3GS. For me, the extra features it has over the 3GS isn't compelling enough for me to spend an extra couple of hundred or so (whatever the price will be) for it.
Higher resolution screen? *shrugs* the 3GS looks good to me.
Video calls? *shrugs* I hate webcams, so it's not something I want on a phone.
Multitasking? *shrugs* I've got a computer for that.
Sexier design? *shrugs* it's a phone.
One more reason to look forward to tax time......

You'll want it pretty quickly once you start playing with the thing.
It's the single most screamed after improvement from iPhone owners and Apple listened.
Best of all, you can have that on the 3GS, iOS4 should be available to download a couple of days before the iPhone4 release date.
I'm with Adam and Hummer, another year(and a bit more) before I can upgrade... but guys, we still get to play with OS4

Can't wait for iOS 4, but has anyone else seen the worldwide developer conference coverage, and in particular the "Apple Hyperwall"? Talk about seeing money being made in real time...

Oh, and a Back Illuminated CCD for the camera! I wonder where I can get an adapter to fit it onto the 'scope?
Cheers

The 2010 Keynote: http://events.apple.com.edgesuite.ne...ent/index.html
2 hours long, but there are some incredible developments in iOS4 to see. iMovie editing in 720HD right on the device - amazing.

Interesting marketing by Apple. This was a lead item on the SMH website yesterday. I just don't see why a new model of a mobile phone is newsworthy. A new model of a car doesn't get the same coverage. It's not as if it is a new discovery or something. It's just an upgrade of an existing thing ie a mobile phone.

Terry,
It's because it's a popular device which people love to use.
It's also the reason why there are articles on F*c*b**k and Tw*tt*r on news web sites on a daily basis.
