Oh my God !! What was that !?!

Viewing last night was great. On my third time out I was trying out my new 32mm and was looking for nothing in particular. I looked around, saw (What I now know in the Large Magellanic Cloud in the low SW). I was scanning with the scope and came across my first "Oh My GOD !! What is That" I don't know how to explain it, but it gave me GOOSEBUMPS !!. It was a HUGE nebula that filled the entire 32mm eyepiece (I have a C8) - was it the Trantula nebula that i saw??

you got it, Mr Wombles!

Have a go next time with higher powers. You will be surprised what details it will reveal. Remember to use averted vision.

While you are at it, compare the Tarantula with the Eta Carina nebula. Have a look at the first link provided by Robh in this thread:

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=60056

It identifies a myriad of features within Eta Carina, including a nebula within a nebula- the Homunculus Nebula surrounds the actual star Eta Carina. The wealth of info within the this NASA site is stupendous. You will never look upon this amazing nebula in the same way.

If the sky is as lovely tonight as it was last night, I will most definitely go and have a look. Cheers.
